Mi-A-Kon-Da is currently hiring for a short term contract to fill the position of Camp Nurse in Session 2 (June 30 - July 11, 2019). The Camp Nurse or “Patch” is responsible for providing high quality nursing care to campers and staff. She looks out for the well-being of everyone at camp and is comfortable in promoting and maintaining everyone`s health. The Camp Nurse must enjoy working with children and maintain appropriate health records during treatment.
Dates: June 30 - July 11, 2019

Minimum Requirements:
- Current RN registration in Ontario with professional insurance coverage (e.g. RNAO)
- Current CPR certificate
- Strong assessment skills
- Strong first aid skills
- Enjoys working with children
Job Duties:
- Provide high quality nursing care to campers and staff while promoting and maintaining health, safety and well-being through care, teaching and consultation.
- Complete all staff training requirements (e.g. waterfront safety drills)
- Maintain good health and take the appropriate time for self-care during the summer
- Observe for any potential health and safety risks and discuss with Director
- Review and maintain all camper and staff health records and documentation
- Provide feedback to Director and staff regarding relative information from Health Forms at beginning of each 2-week session
- Check all campers on arrival for general health, medications, head lice and receive health form
- Keep all staff and camper medications locked in a cupboard
- The nurse reports daily to the Director the general health of campers and staff and discusses any problems and or health concerns as needed
- On call for any emergencies
- Complete incident report for significant incidents including writing parents re: serious accident, hospitalization, prolonged stay in health centre, follow up treatment after camp, any camper that has been seen by a physician and treatment
- Keep ongoing shopping list of required supplies
- Prepare supplies for campers with motion sickness for departure day
- Restock first aid kits as required
- Check campers before leaving and on return from a canoe trip
- Review with staff on trip camper medications, how to administer, properly labelled and documentation process
- Ensure that all medications are returned to the Health Centre after canoe trip

Founded in 1955, Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da is a traditional summer camp for girls ages 7-16. The camp is situated on Birch Island, a 23-acre private island on Lake Wah Wash Kesh near Parry Sound, Ontario.
