Head Cook / Food Services Manager
Execute and coordinate the planning, purchase, storage, and preparation of all kitchen and meal needs for the basecamp. The Food Services Manager / Head cook will plan and execute the required menu with consideration of budget, nutrition, camp refrigeration/storage, special vegetarian or other participant special need requirements; efficiently organize storage (dry and refrigerated) to prevent food loss; prepare adequate meals and snacks at base camp with the available cooking gear; keep all areas of the kitchen clean and organized; courteously accommodate and direct any designated kitchen help from staff in the assisting of meal preparation, chores and clean-up of the kitchen area.
The excellent candidate will be skilled in food preparation and knowledgeable of food storage standards and food nutrition; familiar with vegetarian needs and other common food allergy conditions (gluten/lactose etc.); experienced in meal preparation in a wilderness setting (island basecamp) with limited cooking/storage and refrigeration equipment; have excellent communication abilities; have experience working in youth based settings; current Food Safe certification
Must have experience with, or willingness to, work and live in a rustic, communal camp environment, with private accommodation.
Room, board and competitive salary based on experience. Accommodations are rustic but private. Contract from June 20– August 20, 2019.
